About

I’m Bill Wilson.

I’m a father, husband, lawyer, Disney theme park addict, professor, wine enthusiast, Apple loyalist, frustrated Catholic, and Audi fanatic.

Years ago I launched one of the first lawyer-written blogs in Indiana, Indiana Family Law. I think I said all I have to say on that topic because I ended up letting it go wither on the vine. I’ve had a few other blogs, like Wine For Newbies (and its companion podcast), but those have faded away as well.

Writing blogs is hard work, but it’s also rewarding. Therefore, I decided to create this blog as a place where I can share my thoughts on issues of the day, offer tips and suggestions for my colleagues, publish articles of use to clients, and more. I hope to be able to write decent articles weekly, and short items every few days or so.

I know many blogging experts say that I should limit my blog to one topic and have several blogs. I understand the logic behind that, but I am a blend of interests, and readers can have a blend of interests as well. Many lawyers are oenophiles, for example, so why have two blogs for them to visit? Having multiple blogs creates more work for the reader.

So, be forewarned some posts here may not be of interest to you. Most of us don’t read every article in the publications we subscribe to, but we keep subscribing because we find enough articles that we want to read. With any luck, this blog will be like that, and you’ll stick around even if I do offer up the occasional piece that doesn’t pull you in.

Finally, a quick note about WLWEsq. WLW are my initials, and Esq is (as most already know) a title of courtesy used by lawyers. The proper use of the Esq does not include using it in connection with one’s own name. Doing that is a bit like speaking with the papal “we.” The proper use involves using it when addressing a letter to another attorney as a sign of respect. But, I’ve been using WLWEsq for almost 20 years as a screen name, userid, email address, and so on. It’s stuck with me over time, so I’m going to bend the rules of proper usage. Please just don’t think it’s an ego thing.
